Fr. Ilarion came to St. Anthony’s Monastery in 1997 as a novice. Before his tonsure, he was George Skyriotis, the accountant from Bethlehem, PA. Geronda Ephraim tonsured him a rassaphore in 1998, giving him the name Ilarion (Hilarion). He slowly worked his way up the ladder and landed himself an office position in the monastery that also involved accounting. The former treasurer of St. Anthony’s Monastery, Fr. Silouanos, returned to the world. On March 21st, 2008, Fr. Ilarion was officially appointed the new Treasurer of St. Anthony’s Monastery.
Fr. Ilarion’s family has been struck with a series of deaths over the last couple of years. His father Haralambos died at 80 years of age in July, 2012, and was buried at St. Anthony’s Monastery. His niece, Lauren Elizabeth Burkhardt, died unexpectedly at 20 years of age, in October, 2013, her burial was private. His brother Panagiotis (Peter) died at age 46 in a tractor trailer crash in November 2014 and was buried at Holy Protection Monastery.
In 2011, Fr. Ilarion Skyriotis wrote Salt River Project (SRP) a proposal on behalf of St. Anthony’s Monastery. SRP is advertised as: “As one of Arizona’s largest utilities, Salt River Project has delivered low-cost, reliable power and water for more than 100 years.” https://www.srpnet.com/
Below is the proposal:
